In the midst of pain I found this book

I have been experiencing some muscular problems due to a bad shoulder rest, raising my left shoulder and too much tension in my left arm. I had to go to physical therapy and the therapist told me to search for alexander technique info. I found this book which is well organized and explains clearly how to align your body as a violinist. Of course, changes take time, and healing your body too. To any violinist in pain my best suggestion is to analyze your posture, your shoulder rest and chin rest, the amount of tension you exert while playing, maybe you have to take a rest and start with a new attitude and posture. Its hard, I know.

Unique Effective Approach to Pain-free Playing

This is a fabulous, completely unique book and just what I needed. The author is obviously well trained in the Alexander technique but has a gift for encouraging others. He very cleverly goes through all the mental objections/obstacles that a student or performer could have come up for them and dispels them with kindness and expertise. I loved this and told several musician friends about him. He has other books for the other instruments.
