Its relatively brief period of plantation slavery and extent of racial mixing have generated a wide range of literary responses. Previous examinations of Trinidad's literary roots have largely dismissed works written prior to 1920. The first work in the series is Warner Arundell, the Adventures of a Creole, originally published in 1838. This was the first novel set at least partly in Trinidad and possibly the first Caribbean novel in English. This extremely well written novel provides a good read as it chronicles the adventures of Warner Arundell, a white Creole of British descent, born in Grenada and brought up in Antigua and Trinidad. After being defrauded by lawyers, he studies law in Venezuela and medicine in England, then goes to seek his fortune. After many adventures, he is reunited with the coloured branch of his family and his Venezuelan love. The originally published novel has been heavily annotated and the contextualized edition of the original text makes it useful to scholars. The book is of particular interest to students and faculty of Caribbean litera

Deceptive Description
By NS2015
This textbook shipped promptly and is in perfect condition. However, the Micrsoft Project Professional 2010 that accomanies the book is only a 60 day trial. Nowhere is this stated in the item description. This was the main reason I purchased this product for a $50.00 premium over my school bookstore's copy. This needs to be corrected by Amazon promptly so no one else makes the same mistake.

Good quality but wrong book

I ordered a hardcover revised version, but a soft-covered book came and it was the international version. Thankfully it still worked for my class

Difficult Concepts, But Fun Math
By Dumbledore's Army
This course requires a lot of time and thinking, but the book is excellent in its approach to walking you through the problems and when to use certain models. Of all the courses I've taken online, this is the first time I can honestly say that the book alone is sufficient for learning. I haven't needed a tutor or the need to purchase online access codes (a pox on McGraw-Hill for their charades) because this book is great! Thank you, Mr. Anderson, for doing what is rarely done in the world of text books--you've made the material understandable.

Not worth that much !
By A Customer
I am disappointed about this book. The book is basically written for students who know little about the business/accounting functions. I found the contents are not deep enough, at least not for veterans or accountants. Therefore, if you want a thorough knowledge of the controllership, this is not the one you should read. Try others.

Trial by Thrall (Trial Series Book 2), by Lizzy Ford

Novella #2, Trial Series.

After the shock of her first trial, Leslie believes she can handle anything, including turning into a magic elf or whatever the fae really are. But the differences between alpha werewolf Ben and Tristan - the enigmatic leader of the fae, whose abs and sexual prowess are the stuff of dreams - soon have her wading into new supernatural waters. Guarded where Ben was assertive, Tristan is hard to understand and even harder to predict. The most unnerving part: he’s empathic. He can read every tiny little emotion she experiences.

Such as … betrayal. The Book of Secrets has revealed a truth that leaves her questioning everything – and everyone – she’s ever known. Something far worse than the Trials, and more frustrating than Tristan forbidding her from using her temporary fae magic to save an entire generation of his people.

The more she learns from Tristan and the Book, the less certain she becomes of her own world, and she begins to resent the Kingmaker magic that ensures she’s only fae for a week.

Another good one - definitely enthralling
By PRBabe5
Book 2 picks up with Leslie bound to Tristan for her second trial. A part of me wondered if she would be able to do this again. She didn't expect to feel anything for Ben, yet she did. What would happen if she also feels something for Tristan at the end? How would she be able to choose between them, and for which role? We obviously don't get any answers in this one, but Leslie does learn more than she did in the first book, and she actually went into this one with a little more restraint. She didn't automatically assume the worst or jump to conclusions, but she also had to invest more beyond the sex.

The Fae were quite different from the werewolves. Where the wolves were aggressive and tough, the Fae were more polite and refined. And yet the one thing that remained constant is both put the clan as a whole above any one person. Clan came first and their respective leaders would do anything to protect the clan. Similar to book one, Leslie is challenged with learning as much as she can about the Fae, without becoming invested in them as she is only Fae for one week. What she learns in this one is devastating. Her role is so much more complex than she originally thought, and the more she learns, the more she begins to understand why the clans hate Kingmakers.

I didn't know where this one would go, and was surprised and not by what she learns about Tristan, his people's "curse", the rumors that he is a drug lord, and that she may have to make an even more horrible decision than banishing one of the candidates. I really liked Tristan. I actually like him better for her than Ben, by a hair. Both are so very different, yet similar in their beliefs and leadership skills. It makes me begin to wonder if Leslie will make it out of this intact. I've never known Lizzy Ford to have an unhappy ending, but there is a first for everything. And frankly, if the vampires leader is as delicious as the last two, I'm just not sure how she can survive this. This is definitely a good series for anyone who likes paranormal books, and is over 18. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to the next book.

One of My Favorite Series EVER!
By Misty L. Lee
I am IN LOVE with this series. I have almost every supernatural series there is out there and I am constantly on the hunt for a new series. This one did not let me down. I love a good hot steamy romance and there is plenty of that! ;-) This series keeps you on your toes and has twists and turns and I had no idea how it was going to end. I was shocked but oooh so happy with the outcome! I highly recommend this series! I bought the series about a week before leaving for a trip ( to start on the plane ) and read the whole thing in 4 days! So now I have to find another one to get before I leave haha

Great continuation of the Trial series!
By All About Books (victoria stolte)
Holy crap! This second trial has thrown me through a loop. Tristan has so many layers and I rather enjoyed all of them. This of course has me wondering what Leslie's decisions will be and when she is given more info from the book of secrets, info that is unbelieveAble by the way it has me wondering where the course of these trials will lead us. I was left hanging with a big cliffie at the end of this one - I expected a cliff hangar but did not expect the one I was left with! Can't go into more right now as I have to move on to the next trial but OMG, if you are looking for an adventure this series is for you!

In Ben Hogan’s Short Game Simplified, the follow-up to the successful Ben Hogan’s Magical Device (2009), author Ted Hunt takes things a step further, focusing his attention on the elements of Hogan’s picture-perfect swing specific to shots attempted within one hundred yards of the flagstick.

Beginning with an overview of Hogan’s magical device for the uninitiated, Hunt then segues into a detailed, step-by-step breakdown of Hogan’s swing from the takeaway to the follow-through, with each step garnering its own dedicated chapter complete with illustrations, photos, and drills. Subsequent chapters deal specifically with chip shots; flop shots; bunker shots; putts; spinning, drawing, and fading the ball; Hogan’s fundamentals; additional drills/exercises; and a special chapter on Hogan stories.

Complete with more than one hundred photos and illustrations and informed by the author’s fifty-plus years of experience on the golf course, Ben Hogan’s Short Game Simplified provides the necessary information golfers need to master Hogan’s short game fundamentals and execute them on the course with consistency.

Fantastic Book, But Not What You'd Expect
By James Nissen
You won't be able to swallow this book in one sitting. I wanted to get that out there before I begin to review the book. I originally was disappointed at how dense the information was within the book, and you may feel overwhelmed at first. But keep reading; the information is great. If you take the time to engrain the messages in this book, your time will be really well spent. This review is my attempt at covering the positives and negatives of the book. This is a great book for any Hogan fan, but I don't think it's the type of book you were expecting.

Positives: Hogan Did Have Secrets That Set Him Apart.

This book starts at the shortest possible swing; the one you make with a putter. It seemed odd, at first, because I had heard that Hogan was not the greatest putter in his day. But the book is not really giving you a putting lesson per se, as much as allowing you to feeling the proper impact and setup for a putting swing. Once learned, this feeling translated wonderfully towards learning to implement the system outlined in the rest of the book. So in order to actually grasp the meat of the book, starting with this feeling will be a great tool.

I admittedly have not read, "The Magical Device" but I felt when reading this book that because of the number of times the author refers back to that book, if I had read that book first, there may not be that much new information in this version. In other words, assuming you've mastered the concepts in the other book, the short game for you would mostly be about making smaller swings with the information you already have from "The Magical Device." The reason I'm putting this point into the "positives" category is because since I've never read that book, all of this information was new to me. When I put in to use his suggestions about the left arm and left shoulder, I started bombing it. No joke. (I hit short game shots, yes, but improving your impact in your short game will translate to better drives, too). The same night I got this book I went to the driving range and few people gathered around to watch. I don't know how much further I was hitting it, but I was deadly accurate that night. I don't mean to toot my own horn on this but if you're wondering if the information in here is good, I can tell you with 100% certainty that you'll get your money's worth if you sift through the book.

The book is dense, but answered a lot of my questions about the technical terms describing the swing. I am a single digit handicap, but admittedly did not know a lot of the terminology associated with the hands and the rest of the body. It was great to have a resource that would clear those up for me once and for all.

To be honest, this is not as much a book on Hogan's short game as it is a book about Hogan's swing. The author does a great job of relaying the swing back to its applications in the short game, but from the title I thought that the author had discovered a complete short game system that Hogan had developed. What Hogan did was discover certain things that will help every golf swing, from the driver to the putter, and the author puts those secrets into the terms you can understand for short game shots. A small distinction, but one worth noting.

There will still have to be a tremendous amount of trial and error on your end, because there's a lot to grasp. There are great ideas about hitting half shots, three quarter shots, chips, etc.. but again they stem from first understanding the author's view behind Hogan's "Magical Device" and the full swing.

There are a ton of great stories in this book. Stories from Hogan's life, stories told second hand by famous golfers and celebrities, and everything in between. He pulls from some of the best golf instructors and books, including five lessons. He also mentions Moe Norman, who often goes unmentioned in stories of the greatest golfers of all time

Downside: Prepare Yourself for A LOT of information.

The author describes in amazing detail every inch of the swing, but then ends with, (I'm paraphrasing) "But when you're actually out on the course don't think about all this stuff I just told you. Just swing." I understand completely what he's saying, but it was a bit odd. You certainly don't want to be thinking this technically on the course, but it will certainly take some time for the readers to engrain the Magical Device.

I had to remind myself how dense Ben Hogan's Five Lessons was the first time I read it. And it has since proved to be an invaluable book that I can come back to again and again. So that point about the book is really a "neutral" rather than a downside. In the author's defense, he does lay out a long term plan for you to improve using this system.

This book is dense. It uses a lot of technical language. From dorsiflexion to the iliac crest, it's as much an anatomy lesson as it is a lesson in the short game. There's a nice glossary to start you off in the beginning, but there's still a lot to take in.

There are some great pages that go over "trouble shots" like buried lies, playing out of sand, etc.. but I don't think they're really "Hogan" secrets. They're really the same secrets you can find in any short game book, but the author's hope is that now armed with Hogan's swing secret, that the short game shots will be even easier.

There is a little known part about Hogan's swing that he actually stood with a closed stance for most of his swings, despite what he shows in his book. The author does reference this at some points, but then goes back and talks about how lining up "like railroad tracks" (square) is so important. It seemed to be a bit misleading if you're new to this information.

I was also very surprised at one point where the author claims that Hogan wishes he had two right hands, when anyone who has read 5 lessons remembers very clearly that Hogan wishes that he had three right hands. This is a very small criticism, but one that I think is valid considering the author is a Hogan expert, and literally wrote a previous book called "Ben Hogan's Magical Device" and references Five Lessons so often.

Conclusion: Buy the book.

If you're reading through this review, and have gotten all the way to the bottom, I'm going to assume you're a die-hard golf fan, Hogan fan, or both. This is a welcome addition to any complete study of the golf swing, and like I said, I've been hitting the ball fantastic since getting this book. My short game shots are crisper, contact is more solid, and above all the ball is going straighter. There are also some great stories from famous players to add a little humor and flavor to the book.

This book is a pretty dense book, and will not be easy to get through in one sitting. But some golf books should not be that way. When you've had an off day at the course, come back to this book and Five Lessons. Look for where your swing may have headed off track and between the two books, you'll probably find the answer.

Remember, this is more about learning Hogan's swing as a whole, and secondly about learning his short game. At the end of the day, there are things you will learn from this book that you will not uncover in Five Lessons. I think that alone is worth the price of the book.

Good, but a bit of a re-hashing
By Brad Q.
I certainly enjoy Ted Hunt's stories about Ben Hogan and definitely improved my own game from his discoveries and retelling of the Hogan swing method, however this book had way more excerpts and paraphrasing from his first book then I was expecting. He did get into more detail about Hogan's fundamentals and thought process during play, but didn't cover as much specific short game strategy as I had hoped given the title of the book. I still gave it 4 stars because I treated it like a "Part 2" of his first book, but it would have been 5 stars if it had more of Hogan's actual short game theory.

Looking to take your game to the next level? This book is for you.
By A. Hively
In the past 6 or so years I have been eating and sleeping trying to improve my golf game. I have bought and read just about all there is out there to read on how to improve your game. Ted Hunt's book is a must have for the golfing enthusiasts library. If youre looking for clear cut discription on how to better your game this book will do it. Do as the author suggests, and bottom line this book will help you improve your game. From the putter to driver there are certain fundamentals that are required to hit w/ power and accuracy the author shows you in simple fashion how you can learn it for yourself. Its a clear and simple description of probably golfs most complex seemingly mysterious moves. It validates and simplifies much of Homer Kelley's teachings in the Golfing Machine in my opinion. Apply these principles and it will open your eyes to a golf game you thought you may never find. Is it Hogan's Secret? Most likely noboby will ever know for sure. Could it be his secret? Im convinced after reading this book that this is as strong as case as any. Regardless, this book helped me understand and finally apply certain fundamentals you see in ALL elite golfers and tour pros.
