Review
“With Broken Juliet, Leisa Rayven meets and exceeds the high bar she set in Bad Romeo. It has a fair share of angst and heartbreak, but the dialogue is sprinkled with sharp, witty, absolutely hilarious banter, which assists in giving dimension to the story. Bad Romeo concluded with a cliffhanger, but happily, Broken Juliet ties off the story arcs in fine fashion, leaving this reader very satisfied. What Ethan does to win Cassie back is definitely sigh-worthy - he proves he's the good Romeo she deserves. ;) If you enjoy a heartwarming unique New Adult romance, Broken Juliet is highly recommended. This book and Bad Romeo are keepers.” ―USA TODAY Happily Ever After blog
“This book grabbed me and didn't let go. I'm in love with Leisa Rayven and the rest of the world needs to be, too.” ―Colleen Hoover, New York Times bestselling author of Ugly Love, on Bad Romeo
“Bad Romeo delivers perfect romance - emotional, edgy, and illicit. Every page is charged with off-the-charts chemistry. Don't miss this exciting debut.” ―M. Pierce, bestselling author of the Night Owl Trilogy, on Bad Romeo
“Leisa Rayven crashes onto the romance scene: laughing, flirting, and just daring us to put Bad Romeo down. I couldn't!” ―Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Bastard, on Bad Romeo
“An unputdownable debut! Filled with delicious tension that will make your palms sweat, toes curl and heart race.” ―Alice Clayton, New York Times bestselling author of Wallbanger, on Bad Romeo
“The perfect combination of hot and hilarious, Bad Romeo is utterly dazzling. I loved it!” ―Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of Real, on Bad Romeo
“I absolutely LOVED this book. This is a romance that you feel with all your heart and soul. Ethan and Cassie's chemistry was off-the-charts and their connection so intense that it kept my heart racing the whole way through. The writing captured the emotional intensity of their epic love while balancing it out with hilarious scenes that had me laughing out loud, and other scenes that had me fanning myself from the hotness. It was the perfect balance! Absolutely freaking ADORED it. And I can't recommend it highly enough.” ―Aesta's Book Blog on Bad Romeo
“I loved reading this book. The heroine is infused with the perfect amount of believable hopefulness and charm. She is fully-fleshed out and possesses a sense of humor that is wry and witty…And the hero is perfectly drawn. The reader may want to throttle him for a sizable portion of the text. They will equally want to make out with him. And that dichotomy is perfect for a New Adult hero. He is wonderful and believably bad for her in all the best ways.” ―Bibliopunkk on Bad Romeo

Standing ovation, Ms Rayven!
By Jessica Sotelo (Angie & Jessica's Dreamy Reads)
"It's easy to hate him so I do.
It distracts me from how much I love him."
Act One was fantastic, but Leisa Rayven just brought down the house with Act Two. I sincerely adored Bad Romeo, but what Rayven delivers with Broken Juliet makes Bad Romeo feel like a dress rehearsal. Broken Juliet left me astounded with how much I was made to feel, how deeply I loved it from beginning to end. Both brutally painful and beautifully evocative, Rayven captivates with this flawless story of profound heartbreak, relentless love and absolution. This duet as a whole is an emotional, unforgettable love story, and Broken Juliet just stole the show.
Cassie was essentially ruined by Ethan over the course of their tumultuous college romance, a story of so much more pain and distrust than I could have possibly imagined. While their young love was, indeed, volatile and emotionally exhausting, it was undeniably deep and real, but marred and destroyed by Ethan's self-loathing and abandonment issues. Broken Juliet delves further into the broken road of the past, enlightening readers to a much more turbulent romance than Bad Romeo let on. This continuation of Ethan and Cassie's dramatic love story finds that the tables have turned three years after college, and while Ethan is now ready and willing to right the wrongs of the past and show Cassie how different he is now, Cassie is reluctant. Too hurt, too broken to let him in, Cassie must relive the excruciating pain of the past in order to move forward.
I absolutely adore Leisa Rayven's writing style. I consistently feel lost in her words, consumed by her flawless prose. Alternating between the present day where Ethan Holt is attempting to rebuild what was broken, and flashing back to the past where everything came crumbling down, Broken Juliet continues precisely where Bad Romeo left off. The entire story is such a juxtaposition of emotions, crisscrossing feelings of hope and sensual romance with the gut-wrenching authenticity of deep heartbreak and loss. Just as quickly as I was immersed in the possibility of a happily ever after, just as soon as I found myself caught up in Ethan's promises and began to cling to the hope that he and Cassie could finally mend their crippled past, I was catapulted back in time to a place where he damaged Cassie so starkly, my heart broke all over again. As heartbreaking as I believed the past to be when I read Bad Romeo, Broken Juliet unearths so much more, an entire history whose surface had barely been scratched, unveiling a significantly more turbulent tale than I knew.
The chemistry between Cassie and Ethan is just so delicious. Together, they're simply explosive, that's one thing that's never wavered. I craved their happy ending with every fiber of my being, but the flashbacks to the past made me desperately want to see Cassie bring Ethan to his knees. After all that she'd endured as the result of his volatile emotions and indecisiveness and his internal battles, I needed to see him as broken as he'd made her. The role reversal was perfect in this story, allowing Ethan a glimpse of what it's like to want something so desperately, only to find Cassie's impenetrable walls nearly impossible to break down, as she felt with him for years.
Ethan sharing his thoughts with Cassie through his journal entries was one of my favorite aspects of this story. It's even more insightful than having the story told in alternating points of view because while I gleaned insight into everything Ethan was thinking and feeling in those far off moments when he wrote down his thoughts, we're also given immediate insight into what Cassie thinks and feels as she reads them, seeing the honesty of his soul for the first time. Those college years were such a difficult expanse in time, Cassie feeling like a yo-yo bouncing between Ethan's indecision and his wavering, volatile moods, never quite knowing what was going through his mind at the time, what game he was playing, what demons he was fighting. The diaries answer every unanswered question in such a fluid, natural way. It's such a smart, clever way of delivering those pivotal details. Rayven truly provides such an all encompassing view of every moment of this relationship in Broken Juliet. Between Cassie's inner monologue, the flashbacks interspersed with present day, and Ethan's journals, there's no stone left unturned. It's all pieced together in such a superb manner that the story unfolds seamlessly.
Just as she did with Bad Romeo, Leisa Rayven has me awestruck with Broken Juliet. This entire storyline, the pacing, her stunningly beautiful writing, her character development and her dialogue, all of it is genius. I absolutely love her concept of weaving this real life romance with drama and theatre, forcing her characters into these roles where they must act out their true pain, demonstrate their real vulnerability and heartbreak under the guise of their characters. Or conversely, placing them in situations where they have to slip into the opposite role, a role much more similar to their real life counterpart. It's utterly genius and it's done spectacularly. It begs the question of how much truth an actor places in their roles. Is a role a mask an actor wears, detaching themselves completely and stepping into something entirely separate? Or does every role require the actor to put the broken pieces of themselves into a new one? How much of the real, broken, scared, damaged Ethan Holt seeped through into the roles he's forced to play, both in his college classes and in present day as Romeo? How much of the heartbroken Cassie Taylor can Ethan see as she plays out scenes in the classroom, or in the present day as she steps into Juliet? It's as if they can use these roles, this job as actor and actress, to find their way back to each other. It's ironic that from behind their masks, they reveal just how broken and hurt they really are.
Broken Juliet is the kind of story I never wanted to stop reading. I love a storyline that makes me feel an entire spectrum of emotion and this series did precisely that. My heart physically ached while reading this story, but it also fluttered with joy. Rayven weaves humor, heartbreak, angst, and sensual romance into a wholly real storyline. I am itching to call this book a masterpiece, because it's undeniably flawless, but my instincts tell me that Rayven will only continue to astound me with every single book she writes. I'm truly flabbergasted by the perfection within these pages. Standing ovation, Ms Rayven!

Phenomenal conclusion to an emotionally charged and memorable story
By Misha

Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven was one of my most anticipated releases of the year. After reading Bad Romeo I had one of those “Where have you been all my life?!” moments about Rayven. I have been calling her the Queen of Angst for a while now, and I knew if the conclusion of Cassie and Ethan’s story was anything like the beginning I would need the wine and Xanax handy. Broken Juliet was easily one of the best books I have read this year. Rayven did a masterful job of creating an emotionally charged and memorable story that stole my heart. The series as a whole has definitely been added to my all-time favorites list.
While Bad Romeo focused on the fact that Ethan broke Cassie’s heart, Broken Juliet actually showed us how he broke it. The story starts exactly where it left off with Cassie seriously contemplating giving Ethan one more chance. Once again the scenes alternate between the present and the past. Rayven does a fantastic job of ending each chapter at just the right place, leaving the reader frantically flipping through the pages to find out what happened next. The chapters work together seamlessly to give us a full picture of what happened between Cassie and Ethan and what the future has in store for them.
The Cassie we see in this book has some serious doubts to overcome. Her heart wanted Ethan, but as the title of the book suggests he had broken her. As we learned more details about their past, my heart was aching for her. Ethan didn’t simply hurt her. He crushed her. How do you learn to trust someone who has done that to you? Her struggle felt real and honest. I will admit that a part of me wanted to see her scream at him and maybe punch him in the face. Not terribly mature, but he would have deserved it. Cassie was such an intelligent and strong woman, and it was easy to empathize with her. Should she listen to her head or her heart?
Ethan. Oh, Ethan. Let me start by saying that I have always liked Ethan. I haven’t always liked his behavior, but as our hero I am a fan. In the present day scenes of Broken Juliet we saw a much different Ethan. He was remorseful and devastated over how he had hurt Cassie. Ethan was determined to win her back at all costs. I appreciated that he understood it would take time. His patience and genuine adoration for Cassie won me over. There was no doubt in my mind that she was his heart and soul. Once he truly let his feelings shine through, there was no stopping him. Some of those journal entries simply gutted me.
I cannot stress enough how perfectly Rayven married the past and the present in this story. Seeing what Cassie went through because of Ethan’s self-doubt was a difficult pill to swallow. The push and pull between them was exhausting at times. Their love was such an emotional rollercoaster, but somewhere in my heart I just knew that they belonged together. Not only did Cassie and Ethan have crazy chemistry (I thought my Kindle was going to catch on fire in some parts!), but they also had such a fun way of bantering and interacting with each other that was incredibly endearing. The connection between them was undeniable.
Rayven deserves a standing ovation for this book and the series as a whole. Her writing style is wonderful. Cassie and Ethan’s story drew me in from the very beginning and never let go. I enjoyed watching how they changed and grew from the first book to this one, especially Ethan. Love is never easy, and Cassie and Ethan are certainly proof of that. Broken Juliet was a delicious mix of angst, steam, and raw emotion that I felt on every single page. I can’t wait for Elissa’s book, and I hope we will see a little of Cassie and Ethan in there. Kudos to Rayven on another incredible story. This is one series you absolutely don’t want to miss.

Outstanding writing, character development that's palpable and chemistry that bleeds of the page!
By Robin Segnitz
Leisa Rayven delighted readers with her debut novel Bad Romeo, a passionate and dysfunctional romance about Ethan Holt and Cassie Taylor. In this first novel of the Starcrossed series, Ethan and Cassie are students at The Grove, a prestigious acting school. Ethan is closed-off. Moody. Cassie is wildly attracted to Ethan’s bad boy ways. Their love is all-consuming and toxic. Their chemistry on fire. Push and pull. Flawed and real. Ethan ruins Cassie for all other men, and then he breaks her heart twice.
“He was my first true friend. My first love. First lover. The master of more pleasure than I knew existed, and the architect of more heartache than I thought I could endure.”
Broken Juliet is the conclusion to Ethan and Cassie’s tumultuous love story. Once again, chapters alternate between past and present, with the story being told from Cassie’s perspective. Rayven begins the story where she left off at the end of Bad Romeo. It’s been six years since Ethan and Cassie first met in acting school and three years since the last time they saw each other. Both of them have been cast as leads for a Broadway production. Ethan shows up at Cassie’s front door to ask for forgiveness. He admits he had trust issues. He knows he broke her heart. Ethan tells Cassie he has changed, and he hopes she will give them one more chance.
In chapters from the past, Cassie shares details about her relationship with Ethan. Our eyes are gradually opened to the truth behind Ethan’s brokenness, and why he was not able to commit to a relationship with Cassie. We begin to see the damage he inflicted on her life. Ethan reveals details about his road to recovery during the present chapters. This new and improved Ethan is endearing. Patient. Kind. Full of love. He knows what Cassie is going through because he’s experienced it himself. He broke her heart twice, but now he wants to help her put the pieces back together. There is an intense flame between Cassie and Ethan that never burned out, and both of them know it. It’s obvious they still love each other, but can Cassie trust Ethan with her heart again?
The Starcrossed series is refreshing and different. It’s apparent to me Leisa Rayven is knowledgeable about theatre and acting. She is also a very good writer. Her writing is a step up in quality from what I typically read. Dialogue between characters feels honest and real. Her written conversations capture my attention, and I’m not just referring to dialogue between the main characters. I enjoyed the lessons about acting taught by Erika to students at The Grove. Journal entries. Memories. Arguments. General discussion between characters feels natural in Bad Romeo and Broken Juliet.
Ethan and Cassie have chemistry that bleeds off the page. It was like this in Bad Romeo, and their attraction is smoking hot in Broken Juliet. Lovemaking scenes are passionate and fresh. It never felt clich. Leisa Rayven encompasses the entire experience. Mental state. Emotions. Physical response.
Ethan and Cassie have experienced heartbreaking loss. Both of them are damaged. But these characters have evolved, and I feel their character growth is palpable in Broken Juliet. Make sure you read the fantastic conclusion to Cassie and Ethan’s story. I highly recommend 5-star Broken Juliet!
